Naltrexone

Naltrexone is a medicine that is used to remove the ‘cloudlike effect’ that heroin and alcohol provides and can eventually decrease the urge to use either substance.

The medicine is mainly used for people who use heroin and alcohol and studies have proven that it has a similar effect to that acamprosate with regards to minimising cravings for alcohol and also the amount of alcohol that people who abuse or addicted to alcohol consume.

Naltrexone does come with side effects, and may cause hyperactivity, thirst, drowsiness, diarrhoea, loss of appetite and anxiety. In a more severe case, it can possibly cause liver damage as well.
