Drug Abuse Rehabilitation – Part 2

Any quality drug abuse rehabilitation centre will offer several different sorts of treatment programs.
These services will include inpatient treatment (where patients live in the rehab full time), outpatient programs (where patients live at home, maintain their jobs and attend drug abuse treatment at the clinic part time), aftercare group therapy and individual addiction counselling, and step-down treatment, known as Halfway Houses or Sober Homes that assist with reintegration after rehab.
Each of these drug abuse rehabilitation programs will contain similar elements however different people at different stages of drug addiction have various needs and it’s important for patients to be well ‘matched’ to available treatment.
If you or a loved one is struggling with drug abuse and rehabilitation please contact one of our treatment coordinators for a professional assessment and addiction referral today. Our trained addictions counsellors are waiting for your call.
Inpatient drug abuse rehabilitation offers a high level of support and structure to addicted and alcoholic patients.
Drug detoxification is a necessary initial phase of addiction treatment that allows patients to have a safe, medically managed, withdrawal allowing them to participate more fully in the drug addiction rehab groups and activities.
Residential addition treatment is easily the most popular and attracts the most patients to drug abuse rehabilitation. Addiction treatment programs will start with a medically supervised detoxification.
Doctors will prescribe medication, if required, that helps to ease the symptoms of withdrawal.  This means that a drug addict is far more likely to be able to stop using drugs than if they tried to quit by themselves.
The addiction treatment offered at inpatient and outpatient programs by drug abuse rehabilitation is comprised of very similar elements.  Generally speaking the inpatient therapy will be more intense and focused at a deeper level of dismantling the patient’s denial and addictive thinking.
This is made possible because patients remain in a safe environment while resident in the drug abuse rehabilitation centre and so are at less risk from emotional distress, and relapse, than patients who return home without support.
Group therapy and individual psychotherapy are at the base of treatment for these programs during drug abuse rehabilitation.  Both of these involve input from the addiction counsellors and are focused on identifying and changing problem behaviour.
A drug abuse rehabilitation program may also offer support groups held on the property and facilitated by one of the counsellors.  These can be closed groups offered only to patients and ex-patients or open groups that allow any addict to attend.  Support groups will offer ongoing therapy aimed more at dealing with the issues of early recovery and reintegrating into society.
Step-down treatment facilities are usually housed in separate buildings from the main drug abuse rehabilitation centre.  These are known variously as “sober houses”, “secondary care facilities”, or “recovery houses”.
Patients in these facilities will work an active program of addiction recovery while living in the house.  They may be allowed to leave the property during the day to go to work or to studying.  The aim of these facilities is to coach the patient through the phases of early recovery.  They offer a set of rules and guidelines to keep the patient on track after leaving their initial drug abuse rehabilitation centre.
If your life or the life of someone you love is spiralling out of control due to drug abuse or alcohol addiction please contact one of our treatment referral counsellors today.
