12-Step Meetings

These meetings are held as part of the many 12 Step recovery programmes in existence around the world. There are many different fellowship meetings of 12 Step programmes, such as NA (Narcotics Anonymous), AA (Alcoholics Anonymous), GA (Gamblers Anonymous), OA (Overeaters Anonymous) and SLA (Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous).

In a typical meeting, there will be a member fulfilling the role of chairperson who runs the meeting and other members of the 12 Step fellowship who participate and discuss various topics sharing their experience, strength and hope with each other with the primary purpose being to help one another stay clean & sober.

The meetings are held as a source of mutual support; something known as “fellowship.” This is the encouragement and reinforcement of the unity of members in managing their addictions together, not alone. Many patients addicted to alcohol or other drugs are introduced to 12-step meetings while attending rehab.
