Aversive Conditioning
06/12/2010
When a person undergoes aversive conditioning, they undergo behavioural therapy that is aimed at counteracting negative and inappropriate behaviours. Basically, the client “unlearns” undesirable and self destructive behaviours through conditioning; an unpleasant stimulus is associated with the specific problem behaviour. These behaviours can include addictions, unpredictable emotional outbursts and sexually inappropriate practices. This type of therapy is rarely used in today’s counselling and therapy methods.
