Substance Dependence

Substance dependence refers to the development of a tolerance to a narcotic substance and the need for more of it to achieve a ‘high’.

Substance dependence may lead to withdrawal symptoms when the addict cannot obtain the drug and the continual use despite all the negative effects it has on the individual.
