An adverse reaction is a reaction to a drug or substance that was not intended or predicted, and has a negative effect on the individual which is detrimental to their well-being.

For example, when a person takes an ecstasy tablet and has a heart attack, this is an adverse reaction as it was not the intended reaction to the drug, and is detrimental to the person’s health.
