Johannesburg is the largest city in South Africa with a population of around 10 million people, projected to be around 15 million by 2015. Also called Jozi, Jo'burg or eGoli, it is the capital of the province of Gauteng and one of the 40 biggest metropolitan areas on earth.
It is the most contemporary and wealthy city in South Africa, being the commercial, financial, industrial, and mining core of the nation.
Joburg's standing as the economic thrust of Africa was confirmed late in 2010 in the first MasterCard Emerging Markets Index, which places Johannesburg at 11 out of 65 emerging market cities. Joburg attracts business, trade and investment from inside South Africa and from abroad.
